Lashayla hopes to be a professional lyricist someday. Better yet, she would like to be a singer songwriter. “I want to tour the world and be a household name,” says Lashayla.

When she agreed to do this In-Depth Profile, Lashayla knew music would be the theme. It was the perfect choice for her. Music really brings out the spark in Lashayla. She finds plenty of inspiration in herself, her relationships, and the world around her. What she’s lacking are the people who would be her biggest fans – a forever family. Lashayla doesn’t expect a family to know all about music, but she does hope her family will encourage her, maybe sing with her, and be there to cheer her on.

Lashayla says she sometimes writes lyrics about herself, but more often they are about others or experiences she has had. The lyrics she shared with us touch on the universal topic of love. Her writing is creative, utilizing unexpected turns of phrase. Most notably, is the depth of emotion and relatability in her lyrics. Her words are the window to her soul.

Lashayla has been in foster care for far too long. Yet this resilient teen is determined to keep putting herself out there to find that family that will love her and support her forever.
Holding on to that hope and continuing to try isn’t easy and is probably scary at times. But Lashayla shared some wise words to live by: “Just because it’s scary and you don’t know if you could do it, do it anyway because that’s just a voice telling you that you can’t do it.” Bravery – thy name is Lashayla.
